Shoulder Arthroscopy

Imagine if your doctor could examine the inside of your shoulder from a minimally invasive approach. That’s kind of what happens with shoulder arthroscopy. It’s a simple process, but also quite sophisticated. Many complex procedures, however, can be performed arthroscopically.

First, we make small incisions in your skin and insert an arthroscope, or camera. This camera will allow us to insufflate the shoulder to expand your joint for better visualization. Now, our doctors can look around and see what seems to be the problem with your shoulder. Diagnostic arthroscopy allows us to visualize the cartilage surfaces, the tendons, the ligaments and bones.

If there are any problems, these will be addressed at the same time. Following surgery, patients typically undergo a course of physical therapy to aid in returning to full activity.
